Learn and Master Guitar Course is a set of home instruction course for learning guitar at home or anywhere. It was the winner of the 2008 Acoustic Guitar Magazine Players’ Choice Awards, two Telly Awards and an AEGIS Award for Excellence in Education. It’s one of the best Home Instruction Guitar Course I’ve seen. I’m really impressed after going through the course.

Learn and Master Guitar Course contains 20 instruction DVDs, 5 Jam-Along CDs, a 108 pages instruction book and Student Support Community. As a guitar player I think this course would be enough for you to learn all the things you need. In this course it talks about:

  • Basic Techniques
  • Basic Chords
  • How to read music and tab
  • Ear Training
  • Strumming Techniques
  • Major, Minor, and Pentatonic Scales
  • Alternate Chords and Chord Creation
  • Advanced Chords
  • Advanced Electric Techniques
  • Mastering the Entire Instrument

There are actually more than this list but it’s too difficult to list every topic from this course. This course also covers a lot of styles like:

  • Acoustic Guitar
  • Electric & Rock Guitar
  • Classical & Fingerstyle Guitar
  • Blues Guitar
  • Jazz Guitar
  • Country Guitar & Chicken Picken’
  • R&B and Funk Guitar

I have looked around in the market, there are guitar lessons usually talk about a specific style. Learn and Master Guitar Course is one of the rare courses that cover so many styles especially Fingerstyle guitar, Jazz Guitar, Country Guitar, R&B and Funk Guitar. I don’t usually find lessons that cover those styles.

You basically don’t need any other materials. The thing I like about this course is it’s a step-by-step instruction course with high quality videos. You can work on it no matter what skills level you are. Beginners, Intermediate Players and Advanced players can all work with this course to improve. Another thing I like is about the instruction book. I like to watch the instructions in video but I don’t like to read the tab on screen. Someone like me would love to have this book. It has all tabs in this book.

The Instruction DVDs

There are totally 20 DVDs and the DVDs are the core of Learn and Master Guitar Course. This is also the core of Telly Award – Winning. The DVDs are in good quality and the lessons in DVDs are well designed to give students step-by-step guide to improve their levels.

In each lesson, instructor Steve Krenz will teach you the concepts and give you the instructions in detail. There is also a follow-up practice that you can follow the instructor to practice. The tabs on screen are for people who like to read tab on screen. I don’t do this anyway. It’s just my habit.

Jam-Along CDs

This is my favorite part of this course. There are totally 5 Jam-Along CDs, nearly 100 tracks with various styles. With the Jam-Along CDs, I can easily practice at home like I use to practice in the band. I use to have band but I play alone now. I sometimes play alone with the Jam tracks for parties, and my friends like it. I’m very happy to be in the band again. The sound quality of the CDs is good. They are not MIDI tracks, they are played by real band.

One thing I’m impressed about is in the early part of the course. Jam tracks are played in 3 different speeds (slow, medium, and fast). I don’t use the slow tracks, but I think they are very helpful for beginners.

For the support they have a Student Community that you can post your audio clips or video of your playing for feedback. They also have a Student Support Discussion Board for users. You can post questions and discuss with others there. Learn and Master Guitar has mentioned on their official site that they give 60-day satisfaction guarantee. I never used it and I don’t think I’m going to get refund. I’m pretty happy with it.

Generally, I’m happy with the money I invested in this course. I was a little bit hesitated about the price at the beginning. After I received the course, I’m sure it worth the money.
